| 2009
was a great year at Byrons.
Joker's Wild started 2009 schedule on January 3rd, 2009. Followed
by Studebaker John on January 18, Josh Davis
Band on the 25th. February shows were Joe & Vicki
Price and Larry Garner. Appearing at Byron's
in March were Biscuit Miller & the Mix, Brother
Trucker, Bill Lupkin and Big Orange
& the Fresh Squeeze. April shows included Greg Klyma,
Tequila Sunrise and Chris Beard. T.
Albert Lloyd Bank, Little Joe McLerran, Truth
be Told and Johnny Reeferseed & the High Rollers
performed in May. The summer schedule included
Loneome Travelor, The David Lee Band
and Darren & Molly Mathews for June. 56 Hope
Road Acoustic show performed on July 10th.
Byron's Report on the Summer street dance: Well, I survived
another Street Dance. Whew. It was tough. Two late nights and a lot of
work. But it was worth it. Great weather, great music, good crowd, and
no trouble. It doesn't get better than that. Plus, one for the record
books as far as door prizes go. 56 Hope Road donated
a 35 pound pail of organic peanut butter for a door prize. It will be
hard to top that. It was a fantastic weekend and a great time was had
by all. One of my highlight shows of the year, David Olney and
Sergio Webb has shared their talents with the patrons of Byron's.
David has 19 CD's out and has been covered by Emmy Lou Harris, Linda Ronstadt,
and Del McCoury. High praise indeed. He has sent me 2 sampler CD's and
people, these guys are good. They even cover a Tommy Womack song. David
was singing alt-country before it was called that. I think in the 70's
we called it Country Rock. MTV's Urge calls David "...part Baptist
PREACHER, part caustic COMEDIAN, and part existential BLUESMAN...".
Houston Press says, "Olney stands out LIKE A JALAPENO IN A BOWL OF
VANILLA PUDDING in Nashville." I think he is going to fit right in
at Byron's.
Brother Trucker, Byron's House Band, is made a return
trip to Byron's. My nephew, Stuart Gray, came back from Washington State
for another nephew's, Adam Stuart, wedding and hasn't seen BT for a while,
so I am surprised him with a show. I don't have to say much about Brother
Trucker. They are the real deal.
Sunday, August 2, 2009, Ken Valdez returned to Byron's.
Some of you may recall Ken last year. He was supposed to play with classic
cellist, Michael Kott, but Michael's father got ill. Ken put on one hell
of a show and returned with a trio this time. Not your typical trio. The
Kilborn Alley Blues Band graced Byron's stage. Kilborn Alley
Blues Band is up for two 2009 Blues Blast E-zine Music Awards including
"Best Blues Band".
The Mighty Short Bus played on August 23, 2009
and the great Kelly Richey performed on August 30, 2009. Back
Porch Mary and Studebaker John returned in September.
Late October, Daddy played for the Masquerade Party and
the Hang-over Party on November 1st. The other November show featured
Larry Meyer. December shows included The Mayflies,
Kevin Gordon, and the 2009 year ended with the New Year's
Eve Party with the Greek Dwellers.
WOW!! 2009 had a great line up. I am tired just thinking of all the great
music that has graced the threshold of Byron's.
Please help keep live music at Byron's. Spread the word. Come to a show.
Top a 35 pound pail of organic peanut butter.
PEACE
